A Seven-Year Marriage

Bavaria’s most glamorous politician has shocked the Catholic state in Germany by suggesting marriage should last just 7 years. Gabriele Pauli is standing for the leadership of Bavaria’s Christian Social Union (CSU) — sister party of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s conservative Christian Democrats (CDU) — in a vote next week.
She told reporters at the launch of her campaign manifesto on Wednesday she wanted marriage to expire after seven years and accused the CSU, which promotes traditional family values, of nurturing ideals of marriage which are wide of the mark.
“The basic approach is wrong … many marriages last just because people believe they are safe,” she told reporters. “My suggestion is that marriages expire after seven years.”
After that time, couples should either agree to extend their marriage or it should be automatically dissolved, she said.
Hmmm… Somehow, I would feel short-changed, but I suppose it could work for some. (shrugs)

A new recycling initiative by greenKarat encourages couples to collect old and unused jewelry from family and friends. The collected gold is then used to make the couple’s wedding rings.
“It’s very romantic to know that your wedding rings contain gold given by your loved ones,” says Matthew White, President of greenKarat.com, which offers the myKarat program. “Every marriage creates a blending of families. Why not symbolize that union with wedding rings made from family gold?”

Well, if you did, you might just win a second honeymoon. The Hotel Nikko San Francisco is holding a contest to celebrate their 20th anniversary and will provide a luxurious second honeymoon to a lucky couple who got married or honeymooned there.
“We’ve been receiving wonderful unsolicited letters from people who met, fell in love or had memorable anniversaries at the hotel, thanking and congratulating us on the hotel’s anniversary. Who could resist such romance! We’ve decided to open the contest to any couple who married or honeymooned here since the hotel opened 20 years ago–not just during its first year as previously announced,” said Anna Marie Presutti, the hotel’s general manager.
The winning couple will receive a prize with an estimated value of over $11,000: transportation to San Francisco from anywhere in the U.S., six nights in the honeymoon suite, breakfasts, a dinner in the hotel’s renowned ANZU restaurant and champagne.
The couple must still be married–to each other–and be able to prove their wedding or honeymoon was at the hotel. The deadline for contest entries is September 25th, 5 pm. Full contest rules are available at http://www.hotelnikkosf.com/specials.aspx or by contacting Joe Curran, jcurran@hotelnikkosf.com, fax: 415-421-0455, telephone: 415-394-1111.

In an effort to sell some “apology” pearls,
The Pearl Outlet conducted a study to find out what the key to marriage is:
A willingness to apologize may hold the key to a lasting marriage, suggests a study of 7,590 Americans, which found that married individuals say sorry to their significant others almost twice as readily as do single ones.
Even when they feel they’re not to blame, married folks are twice as likely as single, divorced or separated ones to apologize after an argument with their other half - according to a survey conducted by pollsters Zogby for The Pearl Outlet, a website finding that a growing number of its customers are giving pearls as a way to apologize.
